Withrule, travellers will have to pay more than $2,000 out of their own pockets for their stay because they made the “choice” to travel.
After the newwas announced, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair went into detail about why travellers have to pay.
“We don’t believe that Canadian taxpayers should be on the hook for paying any part of the cost for the choice and decision that some individual has made to engage in non-essential discretionary travel.” BILL BLAIR

Blair explained that if people are going to travel for non-essential reasons, then “they should bear the full cost and responsibility of all the measures that are necessary to keep Canadians safe as a result of the choices that they made.”
He also went through the cost associated with the newrequirement.
It includes not just the hotel room, but health and safety measures to protect staff, security measures, testing measures and transportation measures.
